Bethune became my home on campus—a place to build meaningful connections and enjoy life beyond classrooms and lecture halls. I aim to expand Bethune’s reach, ensuring more students can experience a vibrant social life on campus. I also want to foster a stronger sense of community and enhance our relationships with other colleges. I am running for re-election as president because I believe I can continue strengthening our community and helping BCC grow for the better.

Hey Dragons, I’m Ghina Dhiyaa, and I am running for Executive Vice President of Bethune College Council. I’m passionate about making our council run smoothly and ensuring that all voices are heard and supported! With this role, I’ll be focused on creating a stronger, more connected community by assisting all Council members in their work across each committee. My experience in this Council has given me a unique perspective on what works and where we can improve, and I’m eager to bring in new ideas to further address the needs of all our constituents. Hey Dragons! My name’s Rachel, and I am a third-year Mathematics and Law & Society major. I first joined the Bethune community in my first year as a BPAC Associate, later becoming a BPAC Director in my second year, and I am currently serving as the Promotions Director. Throughout my time at Bethune, I have been passionate about contributing to and making a positive impact on our incredible community. Bethune is a truly special place, and I want to continue fostering the strong sense of belonging and excitement that makes it so unique. As EVP, I would work towards creating a council that strives to reach every member of the Bethune community, ensuring that everyone feels included, connected and supported by the council, further enhancing their college experience. The EVP’s main role is to oversee the internal operations of the BCC while assisting all council members in fulfilling their duties. With my strong time management and organizational skills, as well as my leadership experience, I am confident in my ability to take on this role and help Bethune continue to thrive!

Hi Dragons, my name is Satyam, and I’m excited to stand up as your next Executive Vice-President.
Over the years, I’ve been involved in Bethune College Council as the Director of Finance and a Frosh Leader, giving me valuable insight into how the Council operates and what needs to change. Beyond that, my roles in the Science Student Caucus and as a Student Science Ambassador have allowed me to connect with many of you, hearing firsthand your ideas and concerns. I know the passion that Bethune students bring, and I have a strong vision for the changes you want to see. I’m here to make those changes happen.

Hi everyone! Our names are Sophia and Talia and we are in our third year of the biomedical sciences program. We are very excited to become your Bethune College Council Outreach Directors for 2025/2026! As Outreach Directors our goal will be to foster stronger connections between the Bethune College Community and outside organizations that will benefit students through meaningful experiences which support mental well-being, social engagement, and philanthropic initiatives. Sophia is a current events associate with the UNICEF and Jack.org clubs at York and Talia is an events associate with the Organization of Latin American Students at York. Both of us are Science Student Ambassadors, Peer Mentors and Ambassadors at the Centre for Sexual Violence, Response, Support and Education. Sophia is also a Science Student Caucus member (EDI committee) and Presidents Ambassador. Our combined experiences within the Bethune Community and larger York community has given us strong communication and team work skills that will translate to this position.

Hey Everyone, It's Martin Nguyen and Harsh Ghedia, we are running for Commuter Director to help enhance the student experience by managing and improving our campus spaces and student engagement opportunities. If elected, we will focus on training and managing lounge monitors, organizing social events, and ensuring our spaces like JACs and JCR remain welcoming and functional for everyone. We are committed to working with the Executive Vice President to develop schedules, decorations, and programs that foster a sense of community, while also supporting commuter students in staying connected with campus life. I have been involved in both the Lassonde and Bethune community throughout my years at York. I have participated in intramurals and attended many Bethune events. I have served the Lassonde community as an executive member of the Lassonde Engineering Society (LES) the past three years and was also the Lassonde O-Chair during the Summer of 2024. I am running for the Lassonde Representative position with Bethune as I believe I can be a bridge between Bethune and Lassonde and bring even more change and services in this position.

Hi everyone! My name is Chigozie Anthony Duru, but I am better known as Anthony. I’m a 19-year-old and in my second-year of Digital Media. I’m excited to run for the General Member position because I believe in the power of community and collaboration. In the past, I held a similar role as a Student Athletic Council leader, where I helped plan social events for my high school. From organizing athletic tournaments to cultural gatherings, my goal was to bring students and teachers together, foster stronger connections, and create moments of stress relief for everyone. That experience has given me the skills to plan and execute engaging events while working as part of a team. As a General Member, I will be committed to help in planning and hosting social and bonding events, assisting with promotions, and supporting Orientation Week efforts. Acquiring this role will allow me to explore different areas, contribute in meaningful ways, and support the council’s initiatives without being confined to a single focus, such as President, Athletics, Lassonde Representative, etc. With my enthusiasm, and dedication, I am eager to help foster an engaging and welcoming environment for everyone. In my free time I like to work out, go to new restaurants and bars I've never been to and meet new new people! Being present during many Bethune events and spending many hours in the JCR with my friends has shown me the wonderful environment Bethune College Council has created over my past two years at York University. I would love to be part of a community/council that creates and facilitates such an environment for its students, and also be able to plan and host events for current students and students who have yet to find the lovely space of the JCR and Bethune College.

Yo, I am thrilled to be running for the general member position for Bethune College Council. If you guys hang out around JCR, you'll see I'm just a chill guy having fun and doing my part as a member of this wonderful community. I am close with everyone in the community as well as the current members of the council, which gave me the opportunity to watch them operate and work hard for us. My main objective is to help the council run events smoothly and present some ideas. As a general member, I will also be able to voice the opinions of our community, their needs and demands. COUNCIL POSITION DUTIES

Refer To Governing Documents:

President :

The President shall:

a. Be available on a daily basis during the summer semester to oversee the planning
and implementation of Social Orientation;
b. Chair Council meetings if the Speaker is unavailable;
c. Be one of at least two (2) official BCC members with signing authority for BCC
accounts and shall relinquish authority upon the end of term;
d. Be a member of the York Orientation Directors Association, College Presidents
Association, and shall be ex-officio member on all other appropriate and official
Bethune Community bodies, committees and commissions;
e. Liaise with the Bethune College Master's Office;
f. Designate access and keys of all council members to the Council Office with
the assistance of the Master’s Office;
g. Ensure with the Vice-President Finance that all criteria are met and reconciled
with SCLD such that Council can complete its annual and interim audits, and
receive funding (if able);
h. Step in if a member of BCC is unable to fulfill their duties.

Executive Vice-President :

The Executive Vice-President shall:

a. Assist in the planning of training sessions for all Council members after their election,
as well as a Council-wide retreat;
b. Oversee the internal compositions and operations of the BCC and shall be responsible
in assisting the members in fulfilling their duties;
c. Oversee the operations, management and upkeep of JACS and the JCR.
d. Be responsible for the maintenance and up keeping of the Mascot as well as
scheduling appearances as appropriate;
e. Make a office hours schedule for all Council Members;
f. Be responsible for planning in conjunction with the President regular BCC Town Hall
meetings once per semester during the Academic Year to inform the Bethune
Community of progress, upcoming events and initiative and to receive feedback from
such;
g. Ensure with the Vice-President Finance that all criteria are met and reconciled
with SCLD such that Council can complete its annual and interim audits, and
receive funding (if able). 

Vice-President Athletic(s) :

The Vice-President Athletic(s) shall:

a. Ensure that BCC events and intramural athletic activities are widely advertised and
promoted to the Community;
b. Act as a liaison between the Student Intramural and Recreation Council and the
BCC;
c. Work in conjunction with the Promotions Director to ensure media is produced for
intramural events such as, but not limited to, tournaments, playoffs, and regular
season games;
d. Oversee the revision of the BAC budget with the BAC Director of Operations,
presenting it to the finance committee, including breakdowns of incentive programs,
equipment, sports events and other expenses;
e. Hire, train, and manage the selection process of the new Bethune Athletics
Committee Directors, Senior Members, and General Members.

General Members

The General Members shall:

a. Plan and host a social event during the Academic Year;
b. Plan and host a council bonding event;
c. Put up posters when required by the Promotions Director;
d. Assist Commuter Director in seasonal decorations for Bethune spaces;
e. Make callouts for Orientation Week when applicable.

Commuter Representative(s)

The Commuter Representative(s) shall:

a. Hire, train and manage JACs/JCR lounge monitors in conjugation with the Executive
Vice- President. The selection of all JACs/JCR lounge monitors must be finalized and
submitted to BCC no later than October 31st;
b. Create a JACs/JCR lounge monitor and cleaning schedule in conjugation with the EVP;
c. Encourage commuter students to participate in the Council and its activities;
d. Program at least one social event per term geared towards commuter students
overviewed by the Executive Vice President, excluding the summer term;
e. Revise a budget in accordance with the Vice President of Finance once per term and
to present it to Bethune College Council;
f. Plan seasonal decorations for Bethune spaces;
g. Develop commuter sleepover program for BCC events as required by the BCC;
h. Develop a schedule for the operating hours of JACs/JCR in conjunction with the
Executive Vice-President.

Lassonde Representative

The Lassonde Representative shall:

a. Act as a liaison between the BCC and Lassonde Community including, but not limited
to, the Lassonde Student Congress, Lassonde Engineering Society, and any other
relevant organizations deemed necessary by the BCC;
b. Be responsible for staying informed on all matters within the Lassonde Community;
c. Attend meetings of the Lassonde Student Congress House Steering Committee;
d. Hold semesterly meetings with the Lassonde Engineering Society President, the
Lassonde Student Congress Secretary General, or any other Lassonde student
organization leaders deemed necessary by the BCC;
e. Act as an ex-officio Delegate to the Lassonde Student Congress House of Delegates.

Outreach Director(s)

The Outreach Director shall:

a. Be responsible for creating philanthropic opportunities for the Community;
b. Act as a liaison between the BCC and Bethune affiliated student clubs and
organizations;
c. Be responsible for keeping up to date on SCLD and YFS Club Ratification
requirements and procedures;
d. Oversee the production and management of a club funding process in accordance with
the BCC Club Funding Policy;
e. Review and suggest amendments to the Club Funding Policy on a semesterly basis if
needed;
f. Maintain a ledger for club funding requests, approvals, and disbursements in
conjunction with the Vice-President Finance.
